MONTREAL—Alcohol is suspected in a deadly accident near Coteau-du-Lac early Monday morning that saw a 26-year-old woman get ejected from a rolling car.

According to the Surete du Quebec’s Monteregie division, a male driver in his 20s lost control of his vehicle at 2:22 a.m. on eastbound Highway 20. The car flipped over and landed in a ditch, the female passenger died during the crash.

Coteau-du-Lac is 30 kilometers south-west of Montreal along the St-Lawrence River.

The driver was brought to hospital and treated for several injuries, authorities do not fear for his life. The SQ ordered a blood test to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The right-hand lane of the highway was closed on Monday morning for police investigators.
