A young woman is speaking out after she says she was assaulted by a man who falsely claimed to be her Uber driver.

In a public Facebook post the woman says she ordered an Uber after having drinks with friends. She then got in to what she thought was the Uber car she ordered— but soon realized that it wasn’t when the driver asked for her address, information a real Uber driver would already have. Then, she says the man then repeatedly tried to touch her and himself until she managed to get away.

Uber says there are a number of security measures in place within its app to keep passengers safe, including an alert when your Uber arrives.

“You're provided information on the make and model of the car, the driver’s name their photo, and we encourage everyone to confirm all that information before getting in the car,” said Kayla Whaling a spokeswoman for Uber.

Passengers can also track their driver and journey through the app and share their ETA with friends or family.

Uber advises there are ways to ensure safety.

“Individuals posing as a rideshare driver may look for people standing outside, you can request your ride inside, then you're notified when your car arrives,” said Whaling.

The alleged victim has filed a complaint with Montreal police.

Police won't comment on this case or say if this is a common problem.

The young woman hopes her story will prevent other women from suffering the same experience she did.
