Hundreds lined the streets in Quebec City to offer well wishes to Parti Quebecois Leader Pierre Karl Peladeau and television personality Julie Snyder, who wed Saturday in what’s being called “the wedding of the year.”

Quebec television and music stars and politicians were in attendance as the bride and groom exchanged vows at the Musee de l'Amerique francophone, a museum dedicated to francophone culture in North America.

Peladeau showed up to the ceremony on a tandem bike he rode with his son, Thomas, while Snyder arrived more than an hour late in a Tesla electric car. She was expected to wear three separate dresses throughout the night.

“We’ve been together more than 15 years, so we know each other very well. We’ve been in love for 15 years and now it’s a new episode,” Peladeau said upon his arrival.

The couple met for the first time in 1999 at the offices of the TQS TV station (now called V), which two years earlier had become a branch of the media empire created by Pierre Karl's father Pierre Peladeau.

But it was a second meeting on a plane between Montreal and Paris when the sparks really flew between them. Peladeau had recently separated from the mother of his eldest child, daughter Marie, and Snyder was on her way to Paris where she was hosting a TV show.

Peladeau has publicly said it was love at first sight. Peladeau and Snyder split up in January 2014, but reconciled months later.

Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume officiated the ceremony, and the couple’s daughter Romy was expected to sing for her parents and their guests.

Past premiers Pauline Marois and Bernard Landry attended the wedding. Other guests included Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and most of the PQ caucus.

Singer Celine Dion, a friend of Snyder's, couldn't make the nuptials, but will send a special message.
