School is out today for hundreds of children on the South Shore after a water main broke overnight.A 30-cm pipe running underground in Brossard fractured around 3 a.m. Wednesday, sending torrents of water into the streets of Pelletier Blvd. and Sorbonne Ave.

Shin-deep water fills the streets and runs up driveways to garage doors.

Pierre-Brosseau high school, part of the Marie-Victorin School Board, is in the area affected by the flooding so officials have closed the school for the day.

While students have the day off, teachers and staff members are still expected to report to work.

Boil Water Advisory

At mid-morning the city of Brossard issued a boil-water advisory for people who live near the broken pipe.

People who live on Sorbonne Ave. between Pelletier and Rivard Blvds. should boil their water for at least one minute before drinking.

Untreated water can still be used safely for washing dishes, as long as they are thoroughly dried before being used.

The city will post a message on its website when the water is safe to drink again.
