An inquest into the police shooting that killed Montreal North teenager Fredy Villanueva is set to resume in October.

Villanueva, 18, was fatally shot by Montreal police in Henri-Bourassa Park in August 2008 after an altercation between the police and a group of young men. Two other men - Denis Meas, 18, and Jeffrey Sagor Metellus, 20 - were wounded in the melee. The shooting triggered rioting in the north-end borough.

The inquest was postponed in May by Justice Robert Sansfacon after Meas and Sagor Metellus refused to take an active role in the proceedings. They said the province reneged on a promise to pay for the family's lawyers as well as legal representation for other inquiry participants.

Lawyers involved in the proceedings will meet with the coroner next week to discuss the proceedings.
