The Verdun Auditorium will soon undergo some major renovation work at a cost of $26 million.

The plans call for upgrades to the existing structure and the construction of a central common area that will connect the auditorium with the Denis Savard Arena. A 2,100 square-metre park will also be added.

“The fact that we're keeping those 3,700 seats, the fact that we are redoing the Denis Savard Arena and using this great opportunity to build up a sports complex that will have a true impact in sports - not only locally but also for Montreal - I think it's a great moment today,” said Mayor Denis Coderre.

Verdun will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the auditorium this year.

The work is scheduled to get underway next year and is supposed to wrap up in 2018.
