Vanier College grad Hugo Richard passed for 371 yards in his university debut as the Laval Rouge et Or downed the Montreal Carabins 40-13 in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football action on Saturday.

Richard’s maiden performance rivals one of the best-ever for a QB on the Rouge et Or. The team record for most passing yards in one game was set on October 12 2003 when Mathieu Bertrand passed for 416 yards against the McGill Redmen.

Richard, who completed 23 of 31 passes on the day, also rushed for 24 yards and a TD as defending Vanier Cup champion Laval (1-0) started its CIS season with a bang.

Receivers Felix Lechasseur, Julian Bailey and Felix Faubert-Lussier also had touchdowns.

Gabriel Cousineau passed for 228 yards and an interception for Montreal (0-1) and Mikhail Davidson rushed for 14 yards and a score.

The game was played before a crowd of 17,123, the biggest crowd ever at to attend a game at the PEPs facility in Laval.
