The notion of a joint Quebec-Lake Placid bid for the Olympic Games is dead on arrival.

In recent months Quebec City Mayor has been trying to drum up support for Quebec City to host the 2026 Winter Games, despite several obstacles that have been noted by the International Olympic Committee.

Chief among them is the ski mountains close to Quebec City being too short to host the men's downhill races.

To deal with Quebec's lack of height, Labeaume has floated the idea of pairing Quebec City with Whistler, Calgary, or Lake Placid.

While officials in Lake Placid have warmed to the idea, the United States Olympic Committee is ruling it out.

Patrick Sandusky, the Chief External Affairs Officer for the USOC, said his country's sole focus is on hosting the summer games in 2024.

"If we were to be approached by our friends from Canada, and to date we have not been, we would politely turn them down as our focus is 100% on bidding to bring the Summer Games back to the USA," said Sandusky.

Labeaume went to Switzerland last week, where he returned convinced that the IOC wants to hold more "modest," less costly games in the future.

In 2014 the IOC also ruled it is possible for two cities to host Olympic Games.

The IOC rejected Quebec City's bid five years ago, telling the city that its downhill ski runs were too short or too flat.
