UQAM has won an injunction to stop teaching assistants and other striking workers from blocking access to the school's buildings.

The union of student workers (SETUE) began a strike on Monday, and members have been very active in walking picket lines around the entrances to multiple buildings in the downtown Montreal campus.

Several classes were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday, and the university decided with the end of the semester approaching it could not lose any time to a workplace disruption.

UQAM officials went to court on Tuesday and were granted an injunction to stop the picketers from blocking doorways. The injunction is in place for ten days, until midnight on Dec. 18, 2015.

SETUE has been without a contract for two years. Members are demanding recognition of intellectual property created by researchers, more transparency in hirings, and a $3/hour raise.

Student workers at UQAM are only allowed to work a maximum of 225 hours per semester.
