Two residents were rescued from the top floor of a duplex during an overnight blaze in Vaudreuil that saw 45 firefighters rush to battle flames.

SQ provincial police officers used a borrowed ladder to help two individuals descend from the upper floor of the building at 117 and 118 Adele St.

The building, a structure believed to be about 80 years old, was totally destroyed by the fire, which started at about 2:25 a.m.

A woman was transported to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, while another person rescued from the fire declined medical aid.

The tenant in the downstairs unit, where the fire is believed to have begun, was not home at the time of the fire.
