Montreal police have arrested two men following recent robberies of four synagogues.

The two have been identified as 36-year-old Frederic Carreras and 31-year-old Simon Shikman. The two appeared in court on Friday where they were charged with breaking and entering, mischief and other related charges.

The arrests came after a rabbi at one of the synagogues posted security camera footage of a break-in at the Chabad House in NDG on Oct. 7 to his Facebook page. In that video, a suspect can be seen at the front door at around midnight. The man comes back five minutes later and pries open the door.

Rabbi Yisroel Bernath said the men apparently knew where to look, as they took off with a donations box containing approximately $500.

A week prior, a few hundred dollars was stolen from a Cote-St-Luc synagogue and there were also break-ins and vandalism at two other synagogues.
