Two MNAs have resigned from the Liberal party, and the provincial legislature, in the past week.

Gilles Ouimet confirmed on Monday that he was leaving politics, with the backbencher saying he wished to spend more time with his family.

Before being elected as the MNA for Fabre, Ouimet was the head of the Quebec Bar Association.

Last week Marguerite Blais resigned as the MNA for St-Henri-Ste-Anne, following the recent death of her husband.

A by-election for the two ridings will have to be called in the next six months.

The resignations leave the Liberal party with 69 out of the 125 seats in the National Assembly.
