GATINEAU, Que.--Rogers' Citytv brand is coming to Montreal.

The federal broadcast regulator has approved an application by Rogers Communications Inc. to convert Montreal's CJNT, an ethnic television station, into a Citytv station.

The CRTC says CJNT will increase the number of Citytv stations, which will enable Rogers (TSX:RCI.B) to broaden its national coverage. The Montreal Citytv station will broadcast a morning program which will include local news.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission says Montreal's Citytv station will broadcast 15.5 hours of local programming weekly, which is 1.5 hours more than what is generally required by the regulator.

Citytv also has TV stations in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, along with Citytv Saskatchewan, headquartered in Regina. They offers viewers local, urban-oriented and culturally diverse programming.

Toronto's Rogers is also Canada's largest wireless provider and is also a major cable and Internet provider.
