Renowned crooner Tony Bennett only sang for 20 minutes Thursday night at the new Cabaret de Casino music hall.

The 89-year-old was supposed to sing for an hour-and-a-half, coming onstage after his daughter Antonia's opening act.

Several in attendance said Bennett initially walked on stage and said he was glad to be performing in Toronto.

Bennett said he had to end his performance because of problems with his voice.

At midday on Friday the Casino said it will be offering patrons compensation to ticketholders for the performance.

In a communiqué, the Casino said ticketholders can apply for a 50 percent refund and will be eligible to get a ticket for a future Casino show. People can contact the Casino at 514-392-2746.

Bennett is supposed to perform Saturday in Cincinnati and on Monday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Meanwhile André Phillippe Gagnon is scheduled to perform at the Casino on Friday, and Gino Vannelli will be singing classic songs on Saturday night.

"I refuse to just play the record when live, so we actually tweaked it a bit, we tweaked all the songs and modernized a little," Vannelli said.

He's looking forward to the show in the new venue.

"It's always great to come to Montreal, my mom is here my friends are here."

Next week a burlesque show moves into the Casino.
