It was down to the wire but Tim Raines has finally made it to Cooperstown, New York.

In his tenth and final year of eligbility the former Expos star has been voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

He becomes the third Expo named to the hall of fame following Gary Carter and Andre Dawson

Raines spent 13 seasons playing left field for the Expos

Nicknamed "Rock," Raines was widely regarded as one of the best lead-off hitters and base runners in history.

He won the batting championship in 1986 and was a seven-time All-Star.

Raines won the support of 86 percent of the sports reporters who cast ballots.

The baseball player said he was honoured to be named to the Hall of Fame.

 

 

Another former Expo was on the ballot for the first time, but Vladmir Guerrero came close, but with 71.7 percent fell shy of the 75 percent cut-off.

Other players selected Wednesday include Jeff Bagwell of the Houston Astros and Ivan Rodriguez who played for the Texas Rangers .

The induction ceremony will take place the last weekend of July.
