An airplane took off and quickly returned to Trudeau airport Sunday night after a passenger started making violent threats.
The Air Transat flight, originating in Toronto and bound for Istanbul with a stopover in Montreal, had been in the air for about half an hour when the pilot decided it was safest to return Trudeau airport.
Police arrested 25-year-old Dugan Akkaya of Toronto, and he appeared in court Monday afternoon to face charges of hoax terrorist activity, uttering threats, criminal harassment, assault and criminal mischief.
The flight, with 315 passengers remaining aboard, departed later in the evening and has since landed in Istanbul without further incident.
