Thieves broke into a Garda armoured truck in Pointe-Claire Friday afternoon in a spectacular fashion.

At least one person attacked the vehicle near Holiday Ave. and St-John's Blvd. behind Home Depot around 2 p.m.

The thieves used a front-end loader to get inside the truck.

"As the employees were inside the business, the suspect or suspects rammed into the armoured truck with a pay loader, causing a breach into the back door," said Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursiere. "At least one of the suspects went into the truck came out and fled the scene."

CTV has learned that about $200,000 was stolen from the truck.

No one was injured, said Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursiere.

The theft has been transferred to the major crimes unit, he said. They are combing the scene for clues and searching for any images that might have been caught by nearby security cameras.

So far there are no suspects in the case.

Last Decemeber, Montreal police arrested five people for six robberies or attempted robberies of Garda trucks between 1999 and 2015.
