Terrebonne has a new mayor, at least on an interim basis.

City councillors chose Stephane Berthe as interim mayor last Friday.

On Monday night he faced dozens of angry citizens who attended the council meeting -- and just as many people were refused entry.

Berthe's appointment comes after Jean-Marc Robitaille resigned last week following allegations of corruption.

In July the province's anti-corruption squad searched Terrebonne City Hall and several other locations.

Robitaille then went on sick leave and stepped down after missing three council meetings.

Two other councillors are under investigation as is Robitaille's former chief of staff, while the city's general manager was suspended in October.

Many citizens at last night's council meeting accused Berthe of having close ties to Robitaille, but Berthe vehemently denies he was ever corrupt.
