Some 80 police officers descended on locations in the Monteregie early Thursday morning in a drug trafficking raid.

Dubbed Operation Kojak, at least 12 warrants were issued for locations mainly in Châteauguay, St-Isidore, St-Martine and Hudson. Eight private homes and four vehicles were searched.

Ten people -- seven men and three women between the ages of 22 and 63 -- were arrested and will appear at the Valleyfield courthouse Friday.

Officers from Châteauguay, the Roussillon regional force, Longueuil, the Surete du Quebec and Peacekeepers from the Kahnawake Mohawk Reserve all took part in the operation.

According to a preliminary assessment, police seized several thousand dollars in cash, several dozen kilograms of bulk cannabis and 300 cannabis plants under cultivation, about 200 tablets, a significant amount of cocaine and a firearm.
