A teenaged boy drowned Tuesday night in LaSalle.
He was part of a group of teenagers playing soccer in Raymond Park when their ball went over the fence and into the pool.
The boy climbed the fence and police say it appears he jumped in the water around 10 p.m.
"Apparently they were playing soccer in the park just next to the pool, and it's a possiblity the ball went over the fence, they wanted to get that ball, and climbed over the fence," said Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux.
Witnesses gathered at the scene as the boys' friends pulled him out of the water.
"The guys jumped in and pulled him out. He wasn't breathing and they started doing mouth to mouth, and that's when the police came," said Samantha Fournier.
A LaSalle resident named Mary said her daughter was shaken by what she saw.
"Oh, it was a terrible feeling," she said. "My daughter is so upset today, because she saw them try to revive him. She's very, very upset."
When emergency crews arrived at the park, located near Bishop Power Blvd. and Centrale St..
The boy was pronounced dead in hospital at 11:15 p.m.
Police say there does not appear to be anything criminal that took place, and that there will be an autopsy.
The pool manager, who knew the victim and his friends, said the group came to the pool often and were comfortable around in the water. She also confirmed the pool area was locked up at 8 p.m.
Borough Mayor Manon Barbe said there is security in place to keep people out of the pool area during off hours.
"They have to climb a six-foot-high fence with barbed wire... to go inside the pool," she said, adding that security will be re-eveluated.
"Is there a way to improve them? We will do whatever we need to make sure this sad incident will never happen again."
