An 18-year-old murder suspect appeared in court Monday to face murder charges after a teenaged girl was killed Saturday night at a hotel in Montreal.

Jonathan Mahautière appeared before the judge to face to face second-degree murder charges. Mahautière appeared before the judge in a black dress shirt and showed little emotion.

The 17-year-old victim has been identified, but can not be named due to a publication ban. There is some information on Mahautiere's Facebook page that indicates the victim was his girlfriend.

Police rushed to the Chablis Hotel at 5800 Sherbrooke St. E. at 10: 45 p.m. Saturday after getting 9-1-1 calls about a woman in distress.

They arrived to find a young woman with severe injuries to her upper body and she was rushed to hospital, where doctors were not able to save her life.

Friends say the girl was about to graduate from an all-girls high school in Montreal.

The girl's death was the 12th murder of the year in Montreal in 2014.

Mahautière's next court appearance is July 17.
