A 52-year-old driver is dead following a crash between an ambulance and an SUV southwest of Montreal that left several other people badly injured.

Two passengers in the SUV, aged 25 and 26, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Two paramedics traveling in the ambulance were injured and one of them was hospitalized. His injuries are not critical.

The ambulance was speeding with sirens on but without any patients inside at the time of impact.

Police believe that the driver of the SUV was blinded by the sun.

A fire broke out at the front of the SUV following the accident and the Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate the people inside.
