A 62-year-old woman, police have identified as Francine Bissonnette, was found dead in her home on Beaulac St. in Chambly early Sunday morning.

A 59-year-old man was arrested at the scene. According to Richelieu-St-Laurent police, he is expected to appear at the Longueuil courthouse Monday morning.

He spent Sunday being questioned by investigators at police headquarters in Sainte-Julie. He is not known to police.

Police arrived at the home at 5:25 a.m. after a call to 911.

"Once inside we noticed certain clues and we arrested a suspect," said Michael Lefebvre of the Richelieu Saint-Laurent police.

At this point, the Bissonnette’s death is considered suspicious. Police will not say what type of marks of violence, if any, were found on her body.

Police say this could be a case of conjugal violence and are continuing to investigate.

The home was for sale.
