MONTREAL - The annual apple picking ritual is winding down in the Montreal area, as only a week remains to detach from the branch for a harvest of Cortland, McIntosh, Spartan or Empire apples.

One of the time-honoured local farms offering the picking experience is the Quinn Farm, now celebrating three decades on Ile Perrot.

"When mom and dad first started in 1982, they started with sweet corn and strawberries and right now we're doing everything from asparagus through all the small fruit and veggies right with apples and pumpkins and squash," said farmer Philippe Quinn.

The farm remains open until late October for those who wish to try their hands at pumpkin picking, however.

The farm offers a wide variety of baked goods for sale and also has a few dozen recipes on its site.
