The heavy rain that swept over southern Quebec Tuesday evening caused flooding and damage throughout the region.

Environment Canada is investigating two areas that may have been hit by microburst.

A microburst is a sudden downward blast of air in an area up to 4 km across.

There are reports that one such blast happened in Blainville, north of Laval, with another in Huntingdon near Highway 202.

Teams from the environmental agency will go to each area to look for damage, including flattened trees.

Meanwhile the heavy rain caused flooding in several areas, including on Papineau Ave. at Henri Bourassa Blvd.

Several lanes turned into lakes, with at one driver getting his vehicle stuck in the deep water under the bridge.

Police closed off several lanes and diverted traffic until the water eventually drained.
