Parents of students at several TMR primary schools are feeling queasy after reports surfaced that a man had been taking photos of children in the area last week.
Some parents have taken security measures into their own hands, personally hiring security guards to patrol the area around the school's premises.
"There are little kids here playing without a fence," explained Steven Amber, a concerned parent. "What stops a guy that is not in his right mind?"
Authorities are also taking the situation seriously.
The mayor of the Town of Mount Royal will be meeting with the English Montreal School Board's governing board next week to respond to a request that a fence be put up around the school.
In the meantime, the EMSB has made efforts to ease concerns by ensuring that police and public security surveillance has been increased in the area and they suggested that more measures could be taken to help ease minds.
“In this day and age, we worry about our children a little bit more, so maybe it's time we look at a fence in this area." said EMSB Chair Angela Mancini, who added that she will be discussing the matter in an upcoming meeting with municipal authorities in the Town of Mount Royal.
The school board has asked the community to keep a watchful eye, but says that no children have reported being approached by a stranger.
