The Surete du Quebec is stepping up patrols of Quebec’s waterways this weekend.

The patrols are part of its "dry water" campaign to keep boating safe.

Officers will be at piers and docks handing out information about the dangers of drinking and boating.

Authorities say 40 per cent of boating accidents are related to alcohol.

Boaters caught driving over the legal limit can face fines of $1,000 or even jail time.
