QUEBEC - Various police forces in Quebec arrested more than 20 people today in a crackdown on cannabis producers in different regions of the province.

More than 500 officers raided mostly private residences in Quebec City, central Quebec, in and around Montreal, the Outaouais region near Ottawa and in the Lac-Saint-Jean area north of Quebec City.

Other arrests are expected.

Police say they seized weapons, 13,000 cannabis plants and material used to produce and traffic drugs.

Authorities say the people arrested were not part of a network but worked independently.
