Tragedy struck a bedroom community on the South Shore side of the Lafontaine Tunnel as a woman in her sixties was found dead after falling into a shaft near a neighbouring home early Sunday morning.

The woman left her home in Ste. Julie at about 7:30 p.m to take her customary evening stroll.

Her husband launched a search after she failed to return and at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday her lifeless body was found in a ventilation shaft outside of her neighbour's home.

She had apparently succumbed to grevious head injuries.

An investigation will be held in an attempt to discover if the woman was left disoriented by medication, drugs or alcohol.

Ste. Julie is a town of about 30,000 residents that sides about 25 km east of downtown Montreal.
