A sitting member of the National Assembly is leaving his party because his name is about to come up at the Charbonneau Commission.

Daniel Ratthé, who represents the riding of Blainville for the Coalition Avenir Quebec, was asked to leave the party on Tuesday until his name is cleared.

The allegations concern Ratthé's unsuccessful 2005 bid to become mayor of Blainville -- apparently a witness at the Charbonneau commission is going to accuse one of Ratthé's workers in that campaign of accepting a bribe from a municipal worker.

Francois Legault said he believes Ratthé is innocent and did nothing wrong.

Following Ratthé's failed mayoralty bid he joined the Parti Quebecois and won a seat in 2008, but in 2011 he left the PQ and joined the fledgling CAQ, saying he had never been a "hardcore sovereignist."
