Drivers take note: Jeanne-Mance St. between De La Gauchetière St. and René-Lévesque W. Blvd. is closed until further notice after a sinkhole opened up.

Officials from the City of Montreal confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the incident occurred due to a sewer collapse. They say they will be "mobilizing very quickly" to excavate and repair the sewer./

The sidewalks are still open for pedestrians.

In addition to the sewer collapse, a leak also occurred in an eight-inch pipe on Jeanne-Mance St. Tuesday afternoon.

The water supply was cut in the area and bottled water was distributed to about 60 nearby residences. The city said restoring the water is now the priority.
