A sculpture by famed artist Salvador Dali has been vandalized in Quebec City.

The sculpture was on display outside the Chateau Frontenac as part of an exhibit celebrating the 25th anniversary of the hotel’s art gallery.

“It’s a lack of respect,” said the gallery’s artistic director Sylvain Fortier. “Not only this case, but before that, there were so many people climbing it and shaking the crutch. How many times did we tell people to step down, but that’s a lack of education.”

Part of the sculpture was broken off and insurers are now trying to determine the cost to fix it.

The piece is valued at $2.5 million.
