MONTREAL - Quebec consumers will have to pay extra for their electronics starting today thanks to a new environmental fee.
A large television, for example, will cost more than $40 extra, while a printer will be an additional $8.75.
The fee will also be applied to laptops and cell phones; other products like stereo systems and gaming consoles will be affected starting next summer.
The money will be put toward a recycling program for electronics across the province.
Quebec merchants are planning to distribute information pamphlets about the new program this week.
Similar programs already exist in Ontario and British Columbia.
