Motor vehicle thefts declined in Quebec in 2015 according to new data from Statistics Canada.

The vehicle thefts increased six per cent in all of Canada, the rate declined in Quebec 14 per cent compared to the year before, continuing a 10-year long downward trend.

According to the head of public affairs for the association representing motor vehicle insurers, the decline is due to several factors, including the requirement to equip every vehicle sold in Canada with an ignition locking device, a measure that was introduced in September 2007.
