A Montreal student leader who was injured during a violent clash with police in 2012 has filed a $254,000 lawsuit against the Quebec government.

Maxence Valade was part of a group of protesters who clashed with police in Victoriaville, where the Liberal Party was holding a caucus meeting.

Officers from the Sureté du Quebec began firing rubber bullets at the crowd and Valade was hit in the face. He ended up losing the use of an eye.

He claims police were negligent in their use of force.

Valence is still active in the student protest movement and was recently named interim spokesperson for ASSE after the organization's recent leadership change..
