In Quebec City, the Liberal caucus has begun a two-day meeting Monday morning.

As a sign of austerity measures, they are holding it at the National Assembly instead of a hotel to save on money for security staff.

The Liberals are facing questions about their economic plan, with some from the PQ opposition saying more needs to be done to stimulate job growth.

Premier Philippe Couillard countered this criticism saying the government is being proactive on the economy. He added that the drop in oil prices will put a lot more money in the hands of Quebecers.

On secularism, the Premier said the Liberal government fully intends to table a bill.

“Our values are very clear and one of the values is no to any form of discrimination in Quebec.”

Couillard did not react to the PQ’s attacks from last week about being influenced from his time spent working in Saudi Arabia. Some PQ party members had suggested Couillard was importing Saudi values to Quebec.

However, Couillard did criticize the PQ’s ability to handle the subject of secularism.

“As far as the PQ is concerned,” Couillard said, “they have proven in the recent days that they don’t have the competence nor the serenity to tackle such a complex issue, this issue of coexistence between communities.”
