MONTREAL - An irritated Janvier Grondin invited his fellow CAQ MNA François Rebello to be silent rather than further embarrass his Quebec Future Coalition (CAQ) any further on Tuesday.

But CAQ chief Francois Legault was more forgiving. He said the former PQ defector is a victim of some vicious opponent attacks.

Since moving from the PQ to the CAQ in January, Mr. Rebello has repeatedly made comments that conflict with his party's platform.

Most notably, he raised a few eyebrows by saying that the CAQ would advance the cause of sovereignty.

On Tuesday, Legault disassociated himself from yet another Rebello statement concerning the Kyoto Protocol.

Legault said he did not agree that Quebec should sue the Harper government for $150 million for pulling Canada out of the Kyoto deal.

Rebello also raised the ire of fellow Caquiste Grondin, the MNA Beauce-Nord, when he suggested that the CAQ should push for a one-car-one-family policy.

The proposal does not make sense in areas where there is no public transit, said Mr. Grondin.

During a press conference, Legault tried to downplay the incidents involving Rebello.

In his opinion, Rebello is a victim of the aggressiveness of sovereignist frustrated at having lost one of their own.
