MONTREAL--The Parti Quebecois has launched a new ad campaign focused on what it argues are the economic benefits of sovereignty.

In a minute-long ad posted to the PQ’s website, Premier Pauline Marois says that if Quebecers want to be more wealthy, there’s no better way than independence.

Marois says an independent Quebec would be more efficient and cut back on bureaucracy.

PQ President Raymond Archambault says it’s the first time the party has launched such an ad campaign outside an election or referendum.

Archambault says the campaign will run six months and target youth in particular.

The ads will be posted to Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.

In the ad, Marois says separating from Canada would allow Quebec to eliminate a costly level of government. It would also allow Quebec to make its own decisions and benefit fully from its resources, she said.

The PQ tried to focus more on sovereignty’s emotional appeal in an ad posted earlier this week.

Marois called independence “a matter of pride.”

The PQ won a minority government in the Quebec provincial election last September.
