If you believe our Tory government, then I support child pornography. And you might too.

Certainly the Federal Privacy Commissioner would be included in that list, as would millions of other right thinking law abiding Canadians.

Our Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says Canadians who don't support his cybercrime bill support the child pornographers. Really?

Is this the Tory vision for Canada? Sounds so much like George W. Bush, who liked to say you are with us are you are with the enemy. You love freedom or you love terrorists. This is scary stuff.

Here's what the Tories want to do. They want unrestricted access to your personal information without warrant. So your computers and your smart phones will be theirs for the taking if they suspect you. Anything that you have every posted on Facebook, any search you made on Google. The police just have to ask.

Knocks on the door in the middle of the night. They want Internet providers to store files on where you have been and what you have doing.

The Tories are shamelessly hiding behind children. What they really want to do is to spy on anyone they like. Big Brother stuff.

What's next, "thought" crime? And as Orwell said in 1984, "Sooner or later they were bound to get you." Most clear thinking Canadians do not want anything about them accessed without due process meaning a warrant from an independent judiciary.

When it comes to the gun registry...

And here's the thing that's a little baffling. The Tories were on a mission to destroy the gun registry because it contained too much personal information about gun owners. But with this spy bill they are doing the exact opposite. They are mining for information, all in the guise of stamping out those child pornographers.

And the kicker is that after Toews announced his spy plan, someone turned the tables are tweeted out rather sordid details of his personal life. No one is immune. That he should understand.

It was somewhat sickening to see the Conservatives celebrate the end of the registry.

A cocktail party. A countdown clock - nice touch. This was not something to celebrate.

Why won't the government make the data available so provinces such as Quebec can set up their own registry?

The new law even relaxes rules around selling or transferring guns . Suzanne Laplante Edward, whose daughter was killed at the Polytechnique, says we are back to 1977

Why don't the Tories just dance on the graves of gun victims? A government obsessed with secrecy. A government obsessed about jails and jets and what's in your hard drive. I wonder how much we will recognize this country in 5 years. And I am sure I'm not the only one who has the same question. Nor the same fear.
