A portion of NDG Park will be renamed to honour the soldiers who died in the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Mayor Denis Coderre announced on Sunday.

Coderre was accompanied by borough mayor Russell Copeman as they unveiled the new name of the area around an existing war monument.

The portion of the park will be known as Vimy Place, after the infamous World War I battle. The area will also be renovated, with work to be completed next April.

In June, Vimy Park in Outremont was renamed to honour former Quebec premier Jacques Parizeau.
