Police are sifting through a long list of potential enemies after a Brossard construction boss embroiled in several legal battles -- and an attempted murder charge -- appears to have been the target of two arson attacks.

The Longueuil police received a phone call Monday from Tyronne Candappa, claiming he had seen someone place what appeared to be firebomb at his doorstep on Rivard St. at 2 a.m.

Candappa is a businessman and developer involved in several lawsuits with former clients of Tysel Construction.

Last week, Candappa’s brother saw a project of his own torched by arsonists in Cote Saint-Luc – a fire that is still under investigation.

Whether or not the two incidents are linked has not yet been determined

When police arrived at Candappa’s house in Brossard on Monday, they discovered what looked like a firebomb.

Accordingly, they cordoned off the area, closed the street, evacuated the neighbours and sent in their bomb squad to deal the potentially dangerous object left on the front step.

The police still don't know what was in the bottle that was left in front of the house.

David explained that the force first has to examine the exterior of the container to find out who could have potentially left it there.

No arrests have been made yet, but police are actively looking for leads.

Candappa has many adversaries; he is facing dozens of lawsuits over a failed condo development project on St-Laurent St. in Brossard.

The 14-storey condo project never got beyond its foundation after the land owner forced the company into bankruptcy.

The condos are now being completed by a new developer and everyone who purchased their condo from Candappa lost their deposits.

Most of the buyers who invested in Candappa's condos have given up any hope of ever recovering their money, because on paper at least, the developer is considered flat broke.

His Rivard St. home is listed under his wife's name and is mortgaged to the maximum.

Candappa faces bigger problems: He was due in Longueuil court Monday to face attempted murder charges.  The prosecution claims the victim is a man who confronted the developer over his lost investment, and ended up getting shot.
