Police are seeking anyone who may have been a victim of cellphone theft in LaSalle.

The Montreal police arrested Khadim Toure Tall, who is suspected of threatening victimswith an imitation gun to force them to give up their mobile devices.

Toure Tallfaces eight counts of robbery with a firearm, carrying a weapon (or imitation) for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, stolen property and possession of property obtained by crime.

The suspect is 21 years old. He is 1.82 metres tall (6 feet) and weighs 70 kilograms (155 lbs).

Police are continuing to investigate. They believe the man might have stolen more cellphones and is asking any potential victims to come forward.

Anyone who believes they might be a victim of Khadim Tall Toure, or who may have information about this man is urged to contact 911 or Info-Crime, confidentially and anonymously, at 514-393-1133.

Police say the motive for these crimes is difficult to determine, considering the mobile devices were reported lost or stolen, meaning the wireless service providers were disabled.

The IMEI (The International Mobile Station Equipment Identity) of these devices were placed on a blacklist, making it impossible to reactivate them.

This blacklist is available for all service providers and for anyone who wants to verify if the phone they want to buy can be reactivated. This measure makes cellphone theft much less profitable, say police.
