Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a stabbing death early Wednesday morning in the East End.

The 34-year-old male victim was attacked in an apartment near the intersection of Georges V and Pierre-de-Coubertin at around 3:30 a.m., an area that overlooks the sprawling industrial section of Montreal East.

Police Cst. Manuel Couture said the victim suffered serious knife wound injuries and was transported to hospital.

He was in critical condition when he arrived in the emergency room, but later died of his injuries.

A 26-year-old man was arrested shortly after the stabbing. Police were questioning him Wednesday morning to determine his involvement in the death.

Police investigators were also meeting witnesses at the scene.

While police are conducting their investigation, Georges V Avenue will be closed to traffic in both directions between Pierre-de-Coubertin Avenue and Ste. Claire Street.

Police count this murder as the third homicide of the year.
