MONTREAL - Police have arrested Eric Beauchamps, 43, in connection with a murder that took place at a bar on Roy St. in the Plateau area of Montreal in 1995.

The police had previously arrested Beauchamps 1996 in relation to the slaying, but subsequently released him due to a lack of evidence.

But police recently received new information concerning the cold case killing, leading them to re-arrest Beauchamps, who was brought to Montreal court Saturday and charged with first degree murder.

Police would not specify the nature of the new evidence against Beauchamps, who is known to police.

On Wednesday, August 30, 1995, a gunman entered the Lupin Tavern at Roy and Drolet at 7:30 p.m. and brazenly pumped three bullets into the head of a 34-year-old man near a video lottery terminal.

Police chalked up the homicide to a drug dispute.
