The Montreal police department (SPVM) opened an investigation in relation to a fire that occurred on Christmas day in Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie in Montreal.

An SPVM spokesperson said that the force's arson squad was called to investigate because firefighters found traces of accelerants at the scene of the fire.

The scene of the crime was analyzed on Dec. 26 and objects from the location have been sent in for lab testing.

Police say they are still waiting on the results of these tests, and are hoping to speak with more of the building's residents before determining whether or not the cause of the fire is arson.

The blaze broke out around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 25  in a residential building located on Iberville St., near St. Joseph Boulevard.

The place was known to police.

No one was injured in the fire, and the SPVM could not confirm the extent of the damage done to the building.

An SPVM spokesperson said  the investigation is still ongoing, and that the fire is considered "suspicious."
