The family of a teenager who was beaten to death outside of a metro station is angry with a recent plea bargain that will see the two suspects in the case plead guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Enlow Apponi died on a sidewalk in June 2008 after he was attacked outside of the St. Laurent metro station.

Mitchell Pare and Kirk Campeau, both 20, were charged in connection with Apponi's death.

The motive for the attack isn't clear, but it's possible that it started as a fight between inebriated bar patrons.

"They beat him so badly he was unrecognizable," said Marie-Josanne Enlow, the victim's mother.

"My son was brutally murdered. It's second degree murder, not less."

The defence decided to seek a plea bargain after it heard the evidence that was about to be presented at the trial.

"You evaluate the facts, and you evaluate the evidence and your degree of reasonability -- if you have one or do not -- and you reach a point that's acceptable to all parties," said defence lawyer Tom Pentefountas.

Andrea Papadopoulos, the victim's half-sister, said she is still struggling with his violent death.

"He always said he's gonna be here for me and now he's not here anymore," Papadopoulos said.

The prosecution will try to get a stiffer sentence than what the defence is planning to ask for, when the case resumes next week.
