The Montreal Canadiens home opener wasn't just a loss for the local team, it also featured the loss of a key player.
The crowd went silent when they saw what happened to George Parros.
The enforcer was in his second fight of the night -- against Colton Orr -- when he fell and hit his chin on the ice.
He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and spent the night in hospital -- sending out a tweet around 2 a.m. thanking fans for their support.
There are no reports of fractured bones in his face and Parros has already been discharged from Montreal General Hospital.
Lars Eller, who was badyl injured at the Bell Centre last season, is glad Parros is apparently on track to make a quick recovery.
"It seems like he was talking. Everything wasn't functioning though he seemed to be somewhat aware and that was an encouraging sign," said Eller.
So far there is no timeline as to when Parros, who has played only one game with the Canadiens, will return to the arena.
