The Commission Scolaire de Montreal has had to close six of its schools because of mould since 2011
Now a committee made up of parents, teachers and administrators is calling on the provincial government for help.
Mould greatly affects the quality of air in a building and can cause serious health problems.
40 per cent of the CSDM's buildings were built more than 60 years ago, and may need better ventilation systems. At least one school that was closed never had its ventilation system cleaned since it was constructed.
The committee is asking the government for $100 million per year over the next decade to make their schools safer.
