A 23-year-old is missing and three other people were injured after a ferry going between Ile Bizard and Laval collided with a boat on Saturday night.

The crash happened at 6:30 p.m. All nine people on the boat were ejected from the craft, which safety regulations dictate should hold only four or five.

The missing man has been identified as Giordano Castronovo.

The three injured all suffered head lacerations and were transported to hospital, while others sustained bumps and bruises.

Police said the driver of the boat tested negative on an alcohol test and that the boat was speeding and going against the current when it hit the ferry. None aboard were wearing life jackets.

The Laval fire department and Coast Guard were searching for the missing driver, but stopped at 8:30 p.m. The SQ has taken over the search since 9 a.m. on Sunday.
