One person was hurt battling a fire overnight in Kirkland.

The fire broke out after 10 p.m. Tuesday in a single-family home that was being renovated.

Flames, smoke, and water caused about $100,000 in damage to the house on Daudelin St. near Berne St.

One firefighter was overcome by smoke and taken to hospital for treatment.

A few hours later another significant fire broke out on Cote des Neiges Rd.

Everyone living in the six-storey building was able to leave it safely.

That fire started on the second floor and caused substantial damage to at least one apartment.

The Red Cross is providing temporary shelter to three people.
